In addition to attending the daily lecture, students will be encouraged to attend at least one JAM (Joint Academic Management) session per week; 4% of the grade for the course will be based on attendance. JAM sessions are one-hour math and academic skill building sessions with a JAM mentor. This is not tutoring. The threefold purpose of the JAM Sessions is:
1) Identify and use effective study skills
2) Meet and work interdependently with other students in your course
3) Practice and master the math material
The following data was collected in the second semester in which the JAM program was running. Note that students who attended four or more times had a higher average math grade, a higher average semester GPA, and a higher average cumulative GPA.
